Fani Cyclone

Cyclone Fani, is one of the strongest storms for the Indian subcontinent in decades, impacting the eastern coastline. The tropical cyclone made its landfall by crossing Odisha coast on 3rd May at 08:10 am with wind gusting over 200 kph. This extremely severe cyclonic storm has wreaked havoc in the state of Odisha. Heavy rainfall and high-speed winds have destroyed livelihoods leaving families in urgent need of help. They have no shelter, food and clean water.

Fani has caused mass destruction especially in the coastal areas of Odisha causing - heavy rains, storm surges and high winds have uprooted trees and snapped electricity lines. This has left districts like Puri with no mode of connectivity. 1.2 million people have been evacuated to 6564 shelter camps and continue to stay there. 1000 villages and 52 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) are affected. Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Khurda, annd Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are the most affected districts.

Affected people are left without home and livelihood. They are in urgent need of safe drinking water, medical, shelter and hygiene supplies. With everything lost, they will also need support for long-term recovery and rehabilitation.

The government has responded well with immediate rescue but the affected populations desperately need shelter materials, personal hygiene items and safe drinking water.

Please donate urgently to help people receive critical relief supplies to survive the disaster.
